Canon’s & Kyocera’s Green Efforts
Canon and the Environment
In 1990, Canon introduced The Clean Earth Campaign and began to recover and recycle toner cartridges used in many Canon office products. In 1995, Canon U.S.A. repositioned The Clean Earth Campaign as a branding umbrella to represent all of Canon’s U.S. environmental accomplishments. Since that time, this campaign has grown into one of the leading and most visible environmental cause related initiatives in the United States.
Canon begins to analyze the environmental impact of products at the beginning of the product cycle. Programs include energy-efficient manufacturing processes, developing energy-efficient products, using a greater amount of recycled materials, creating a copier toner cartridge collection and recycling program and eliminating hazardous substances. More information about these and Canon’s many other initiatives and technologies can be found in the Canon Sustainability Report.
Kyocera and the Environment
Kyocera Mita America was awarded the 2008 Excellence in Partnership (EIP) award for Industry Green Contractor from the U.S. Government’s General Services Administration (GSA) in recognition for its environmental commitment. In addition, our U.S. facility’s Environmental Management System (EMS) has achieved ISO14001:2004 certification, which distinguishes corporations that effectively manage how their activities, products and services impact the environment.
Kyocera innovates using technology to reduce TCO, streamline advanced document imaging tasks and protect the environment. Its environmental awareness is evidenced through the ECOSYS brand of printers. Unnecessary waste of cartridges is eliminated in ECOSYS products, since toner is added to the existing unit without disposal of the drum, a feature that not only helps protect the environment but contributes to a low TCO.
