About Imperial


In 1974, the Portland Trailblazers were beginning their fourth season, the Fremont Bridge was just completed, and Ed Pickens opened Imperial Office Machines in South East Portland. Imperial quickly became a regional leader in office equipment, specializing in IBM and Royal typewriters.   As technology changed, so did the products Imperial sold.  The plain paper fax machine and xerographic copier became the staple products of the industry.  Imperial became an authorized Canon dealer in 1993 and more recently a Kyocera dealer (check our Canon versus Kyocera page to learn more about both companies) . Though the products and technology have changed, Imperial’s values and focus have not.

Imperial’s success has been founded on providing exceptional service with quality products.  Today, Imperial focuses on providing the latest technology in digital imaging and document management.  Staying true to its beginnings, Imperial thrives on remaining a local business that its customers can rely on for all their imaging needs.  No matter how big or small your company is, you can count on Imperial and its tenured staff of professionals to help your business save time, energy, and money.

Rick Gardner, President of Imperial Office Solutions, has been in the office equipment business for over 34 years. Rick began as a service tech part time in 1975. He worked to become service manager and then shortly after that moved into sales and eventually became sales manager. Rick became President of Imperial Office Machines in 1999. With his background in service and sales, he has built Imperial with a firm commitment to supply the finest customer care and support .

John Mallett is Imperial Office Solutions Sales Manger.  As many of our customers  are aware, there isn’t much about copiers that John doesn’t know (check him out in Imperial’s Video Library). John has worked in the copier industry for over ten years, the last five with Imperial.  He started his career in copier service before transitioning into sales.  His unique  specialized background gives him the opportunity to better help customers understand today’s imaging technology and how it can reduce costs  and increase productivity in their office.

Randy Julian has been the Service Manager for Imperial Office Solutions for the past 4 years. Randy’s 21 years of customer service and copier industry experience has made Randy an invaluable asset to the Imperial team (check him out in Imperial’s trouble Shooting Video Library) .  He is solution oriented with a focus on integrity, honesty, and  win-win business relationships.
